Re: Canon Extender EF 2X II & Canon EF-S 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS In reply to Quijibo69 • Oct 14, 2008 If the aim is to get up to 400mm without spending big money you might be better off looking at third party lenses.
The Extender EF 2x III features nine optical elements in five groups, ensuring improved optical performance. All optical elements have Canon's Super Spectra coating to reduce ghosting and flare. A new Fluorine Coating on the front and rear elements makes marks, such as spots left by water or fingerprints, much easier to clean than standard
Forget hand holding it, use a tripod. Also because this is a 2X extender, you're losing a LOT of light. With my Canon 300mm 2.8, with the 2.0 mk III I'm now shooting at aperture of f/5.6. You're also losing a LOT of autofocus speeds. Canon is saying as much as 75%, but it didn't feel that high.
