Adding a note that if you (OP) have friends who are experienced players and have maxed crafting, they may be willing to help you out by giving you the crafted materials if you trade them the raw ingredients.
Yes, the booster gear is basically handing you a max-level set of gear so that you can take part in the max-level game. It's not the best gear for all builds, but it's good enough to get started on everything. Chasing gear isn't the point of GW2 endgame, so it doesn't really matter in the long run.I mean, it depends on your definition of easy, as whether that includes "fast", rng, or not. You could open 1000 chests in Dragonfall and select the Scion's longbow. Or buy gems, convert to gold, and buy Kudzu. Or fight Tequatl or Drakkar until you get an ascended weapon chest drop. YMMV on those, of course. You get currencies to craft ascended stat selectable gear at lower cost. Aditionally, you get ascended weapons and armor as drops from the daily fractal chests. Malicious ascended pieces can become trailblazer gear for free. If you get non malicious armour chests, you can statswap to trailblazer using a mystic forge recipe. Those are the things that can drop by salvaging ascended weapons with an ascended salvaging kit: vision crystal (always, account bound, used in crafting recipes) Ball of Dark Energy (always, account bound, used as a currency and for crafting (as well as legendary crafting)) If you need any of this, then salvage it with the ascended kit.
