To clear up any confusion the N63 twin turbo engine on my x5 has a coolant circuit for the engine and a separate coolant circuit for the turbos; two separate isolated systems. For normal maintenance purposes I am simply inquiring about the turbo circuit coolant flush procedure.

I've been getting an intermittent "Add Coolant" message, so I went to add some this morning and, lo and behold, I couldn't figure out which spout to pour it into. Tried looking at the manual, but the diagram shows the four cylinder The exact wording from the service report are: COOLANT PUMP IS BINDING. FOUND FAULTS FOR COOLANT PUMP. CHECKED WIRING TO PUMP AND FOUND SLUGGISH MOVEMENT. RECOMMEND THERMOSTAT AS WELL. COULD NOT TEST DUE TO COOLANT PUMP FAILURE. Of course I barely made it home from the dealer. Solution: This is potentially an easy fix. Simply top up your coolant to the “Max” or “Full” level when the engine is cold. Use a 50/50 coolant-and-water mix, as specified in your owner’s manual. For the next week, check your coolant level frequently (with a cold engine), to be sure that there is no ongoing leak that requires regular F30 N55 engine coolant temp sensor. Where is the coolant temperature sensor located on this engine? I've been having an issue with it lately, and after reading the codes myself and checking the hidden menu, it appears that sensor has gone bad. The temp reads -128C in the menu, and the fault code it throws is for an invalid signal.
